I agree not sure why. I have tried with the ISS to the north and to the south. Not being scientifically minded I thought being to the south I would see more of the sun lit side but at the moment it doesn't seem to be the case. The solar panels seem dull.

Personally I hand hold my telescope and attempt to follow it across the sky. A fast shutter speed 1/1000 - 1/2000 helps prevent blurring from the movement of both satellite and telescope. It's not easy keeping it in frame but with practice you do get better.
