You might think that but it's just not the case I'm afraid. There is an exemption but it's a lot lower than that figure - I believe just £39 GPB if a gift and £15 GPB for other items ?.

In addition, a number of major brands won't provide warranty support for items purchased outside of the agreed supplier networks for the area of residency of the purchasor.
