Last Jupiter post for this season!

Here's my impression of Jupiter from the night of May 30th. The seeing was a bit wobbly for much of the time but when it did steady it was a very nice view. Unless something out of the ordinary occurs on the planet, this will be my last Jupiter post for this season as, though beautiful to look at, its all very much the same night after night.

Sorry you're not posting any more 'this season'.  I must admit, I wouldn't agree it's always the same  (and my eyes aren't as good as yours!), and also you'll miss it when the next monster size comet crashes into Jupiter leaving a wonderful impact scar.  It's the same as Saturn in some ways, it changes less obviously than Jupiter, but wouldn't it be great to discover the next large white spot .  Yes, I know it's unlikely, but................ 'Hezzlewood's Great White Spot' has a certain ring to it .

Mike - something tells me you will post again :icon_biggrin: ............

You're probably right David. It's an addiction and I can't help myself! I'll certainly keep on sketching Jupiter but will probably not post them unless they are interesting.

I remember that big white spot on Saturn,  back in 90/91 I seem to remember, but I could be wrong. I was testing one of Phil Horrocks 6" F15 SCT's and Saturn was low in the south west. I said hey Phil, there's a whopping white spot on the equator. I thought nothing of it and neither did Phil, until about a fortnight later when it was announced that there's a big white oval on Saturn. It was most likely discovered long before I saw it, as notification of such things was much slower back then than they are today. Doesn't matter anyway, I'm only in it for the ride! If I do discover anything I'll notify you first, then you can claim it. As long as I get mentioned in a foot note that I was your scope caddy I'll be happy. ?

I hope not Mike. I for one love seeing your sketches - and I know others do too!

All the best,

Jeremy

Hi  Mike ,  I concur with Jeremy, and have very much enjoyed sharing your observations of Jupiter this apparition. I know from Paulastro that you have bionic eyes. keep up the good work.     Chris
