70-200mm F2.8 canon for astrophotography??

Hello

does anyone have any experience of using this lens with a CCD camera? I know it's a chunk of money, but I like the idea of keeping my imaging rig light. Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated.

I've used my L series lens with my CCD's. It is ok, but there is significant distortion in the corners that puts me off. I would rather use a lens with an adjustable f ring to bring it down a couple of stops and get better star shapes. That said, it IS fast. I never tried using Canons lens correction in PS.

Zoom lenses on the whole are a compromise too far for astrophotography perhaps. Would probably be better with a fixed focal length tube?

Thanks for the info, I used a canon 200mm f2.8 prime with my Atik and I loved it. I just thought having the ability to change the fov would be a nice option....

Just wondering are fixed primes the way to go??
