Those detailed surface shots are wonderful....."AR2659. Artistic I could not help myself..."    Science and art...great combo...

They remind me of those 3-D  stereographic images where if you defocus and stare at them long enough something emerges  !!

Super set again Charl, some compensation for the lurgey you are suffering! The surge activity I reported in the observing section is situated about 1/3 of the way from the top of your no 4 prom images, you can see a small blip which has since developed.  :icon_biggrin:

Nicely done Charl, just been doing a bit of visual and seeing is pretty steady, hope it last to get some images.

2659 looking very bright like it may do a bit of flaring.

AR2659.

Hi Charl,

You always have the most amazing photos.

I had hoped to get something like your first one -  I can't even dream of your other shots.

Here is today's effort:

DSC_0613.thumb.jpg.b6570327e7d7c935b7a237b62a1c24b4.jpg

But it's not a shadow of yours.  What can I do?  This is DSLR through my 8" Newtonian, but with a small Baader film filter (you know it's got a small cap of about 58 mm on the main dust cap).  It's ISO 100 and 1/40 secs.  There is no post-processing.

I tried to use my new Arduino driven auto-focus for the first time, but fell back to manual focus.  I think your focus is better than mine.  How do you get that amazing focus, for instance on the Active region.

Your contrast is also so much better than mine, clearly showing granularity.

Finally, I suspect light leakage during the day is more of an issue than at night.

Regards

Steve.

thanks Stevebz, your so kind mate, your pic is quite good mate, I use a frac for sol, newts do weird things when in the sun and using the small hole in you lid cuts down the detail you would get better results with a full filter over the end of you scope, I also use a Lunt solar wedge which is very contrasty , you cant use them with newts because of the heat build up on the mirrors, focus comes with practice keep at it and you will soon get the hang, I have marks on my focuser so that gets me near.

WL is hard, HA is no easyer but you have a lot more detail to play with, todays AR2659 is small and that can make it a lot harder to catch the detail.

clear sky charl.
