Sol HA, WL, Proms. new action 19-5-17

sunny here again but with a fair bit of cloud, seeings not bad in the gaps. we have a new AR-2658, its only small but might develop. theres some nice proms too.

kit ed80, quark chromo,asi120mc for HA,   120mm f5 frac, lunt wedge, 1200d for WL.

Nice set Charl. Sunny here too, but thin misty cloud making it difficult to focus on the ARs. Still at least there is something to focus on. Hope your sky keeps clear.

Hi Charl.  my solar knowledge is not too hot  (!).......

but is the  cloudy veil like structure in your first picture  an actual 'former' prominence  but seen from straight-on as opposed to 'edge-on' when on the limb ?

I have often wondered.  Cheers,  and nice pictures.

That's right, it is basically a prominence seen against the brighter sun so it appears darker and is called a filament.

Thanks Stu,    so....... that means they must dance around on the surface as they do on the limb....   I can feel a potential animation coming on.....

thanks Sean, yes when there on the limb there proms and when there on the disc there filaments, we get to see there full size when on the disc some can reach huge sizes ,spanning almost across the disc. clear sky, charl.
