Has anyone observed the newly discovered Supernova in NGC 6946, aptly named "Fireworks galaxy" ? It could be visible in a 6" or so and is well placed. There's a live link tomorrow the 19, from the Virtual Telescope Project.

Nice one. Not tried for it, might be worth a go but not sure I can do it from home!

EDIT Just checked, it depends on what sort of night I get. In the C925 a mag 19+ night would do it, my normal 18.5 would not. Still worth trying.

I was going to have a go at this one on the next clear night. It seems to have been recorded at 13th magnitude last night. If it stays around there it should be possible from my back yard with my 12" dob on a decent night. Trouble is that SN's can fade quite quickly .....

No chance for me really at that magnitude John, I thought it was closer to 12 but as you say, fading perhaps?

The latest visual estimates are between 12.5 and 12.8 and it appear to have brightened over the last few days.

Nigel

That sounds more possible for me, thanks Nigel :)
