xtreemchaos
going along the artistic line posted by Rob, heres what I use ,Topaz glow, a plugin for photoshop, its very easy to use with a number of presets. take any old solar suface pic and load it in the program , move a few sliders until you get what you want. heres some pics of the results, I spent no longer than a few minutes, you can get a lot better results if you take your time. hope you all have clear, charl. unaltered pic. run through glow mono. with a bit of colour. the program. bear in mind you lose 80% of the proper detail but it do make a nice artistic image. heres another. in mono, "different pic" I just like them instead of colouring. this is less of a transformation. Dave Smith
What fun! I wonder if it has any real use? Dave
xtreemchaos
thanks Dave, oh indeed, I find all the apps in the topaz collection usefull, I use claritiy and denoise the most, great pics mate. charl.
Davey-T
Perhaps it can be incorporated into processing carry out some on the squiggley version then convert it back, bit like FFT. Dave
xtreemchaos
thanks Dave, don't see why not, ive just added another ,with a bit less processing , its from a different pic. charl.
johnfosteruk
Cracking Charl. I wonder if it's any good on WL close ups.

Tony G
Its taking over!!! Don't forget to post your real data with them everyone! I enjoy a good 5 hour preview of what's coming my way!! Someone do a sunspot in white light!!
Macavity
Y'mean there are (still) Sunspots? Details on WL etc? My image is of course an IRIS-simulated BLANK disk! But I sense there are MERITS in sometimes "off-beat" presentations of data! I now note (with interest) that professionals *do* e.g. use "flattened" solar images! (c.f. Dave T & me considering merits of animation. lol) It is a paradox of science that "real data" often doesn't always convey idea of what is (rightly) held TRUE... I rather LIKE the images. Few Astro Images convey what we would actually SEE? If indeed that were possible?
Rob63
Apart from the artistic pleasure I think it can also be used to reveal some of the structures and shapes. It's interesting to switch between the real & processed data - the artistic interpretations are emphasising and exaggerating the data. Rob. xtreemchaos
this is the best I could do with WL without killing the detail in the spots too much, I think the program needs detail to build from. charl. normal. glowed. I'm sure somebody could do better, my processing skills are very chaotic.
johnfosteruk
It doesn't seem to suit WL as you say Charl. I had a go and anything over 1 notch up on the smudge slider kills the detail. You can make some pretty pictures but nothing representative of the photosphere!!

I see beauty and wonder in these things but art in my view is a human construct. It can be good or bad. Nature just is. Regards Andrew
xtreemchaos
my view isn't that narrow mate, to leave nature out, well id be missing out, when its there right infront of my eyes, just cus it wasn't made by humans, well were not the only life on this planet , charl. I think you misunderstand me. I just exclude nature from art. Nature in all its aspects is beyond compare. To seek to understand and enjoy it in all its forms is an endeavour I never tire of.. xtreemchaos
what I read from your post mate , was that you goto galleries for Art, I'm just say my view is I see Art everywhere, that Art is in science and I don't see why anything made by nature cant be viewed as Art and it can be seen almost anywhere, I'm not trying to change your mind, just telling you my opinion as a reply to your first post. charl. andrew s
We have a different definition / idea of what art is. I propose we leave it at that. Regards Andrew
