New mosaic with old data - NGC 7000 and surroundings

A new Deep Sky Image Processing application is soon to be released: Astro Pixel Processor (APP) by Mabula Haverkamp of Aries Productions. I feel privileged to make part of the group of beta testers of this new software suite. About 2 years ago I switched from Windows to OS X. The only program I missed on the Mac was good old Registar. Thanks to APP, there's no more need to use Registar; APP has very strong (and unique!) algorithms implanted for registration, normalisation and integration (including distortion correction).

I decided to reprocess "old" data from scratch in APP and assemble this 6 pane mosaic. Data were acquired over the course of several nights at Les Granges (@ollypenrice) in August 2015. Captured with an Atik 11000, Baader 7 nm H-alpha filter and Takahashi ε-180ED. Total integration time: 11 hours, 15 minutes.

BTW, Unfortunately I had to cancel a stay at Les Granges from October 14 - 21, 2017. So if you're interested in spending a week under a splendid milky way (SQM 21.5+ skies) with a gracious host, contact Olly a.s.a.p.

That's a lovely looking image - the mosaic is seamless and the processing is delicate and yet detailed..... Love it!!! And I have to say that I'm looking forward to giving the new software a try..... If it's easy to work it will get my vote :)

Did you build the mosaic at the linear stage, Maurice?

Yes, I did. There was only one seam that showed stacking faults (see attachment) that I had to touch up in Photoshop. These faults are probably due to 1) user inexperience with the settings / parameters in APP 2) (too) little overlap between the panels. I've sent the frames to Mabula so he can do further research.

Thank you, Sara. Processing, in this case, only involved the automatic DDP stretch in APP and adjusting the black point in Photoshop.

It's a great stretch. Can't fault it. All this automated processing is going to do me out of a job!

Looks very smoothly done Maurice and I look forward to seeing the final release version of the software - thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I too use a Mac - @mftoet have I understood you correctly, as the website doesn't make it explicit, APP will be Mac compliant?

It runs on all platforms. It's a java based application.
