Wonderful Moon. May 1.

Wonderful lunar viewing from Tenerife this evening. From my sea level urban location there seems to be a "golden" hour between 9pm and 10pm when presumably the ambient air temperature reaches equilibrium. Transparency was excellent and only a slowish undulating ripple demoted the seeing from being perfect. Using my C8se at 400x equipped with binoviewers the main objects of interest were Posidonius and the triple grouping of Theophilus, Cyrillus and Catharina. I have seldom seen as much detail as prented by the floor of Posidonius and the central mountains in Theophilus cast sharp black shadows revealing their impressive height. I tried lower powers but the image quality was no better and the impression of hovering above the scene was somehow lost. A real indication of the good seeing was the obvious texture difference shown in various areas, eveything from jagged mountains to gravel. Jupiter, which I have to wait until after 11pm to clear the rooftop is next on the list.   :icon_biggrin:
