RIP Pierre Binétruy

Recommended Posts

Not sure where to post this, but sadly I've just received an email informing me that Pierre Binétruy from Paris Diderot University passed away on 1st April 2017.

My only connection to him was through an online Gravity course which was probably way below the academic abilities of you guys, but it had me fascinated and he took time to answer some pretty basic and not so basic questions from bod's like me.

RIP Pierre

Very sorry to hear of Pierre's passing. This course was his triumph. I have participated in many MOOCs and spoken about them at our local Astronomy Society but I always cite this one as unique in that it was originally held at the ideal time for the subject (Einstein centenary and the LISA Pathfinder launch) and it embraced these events perfectly within the course material with eminent discussion panels and live hangouts including unparalleled access to the key people involved (e.g. from the launch site). Pierre brought all of this together and delivered it superbly with his own blend of wisdom, charm and humour.
