Sea Caves - Dawlish Warren

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to get some astro shots out of the mouth of a sea cave for about a year, thankfully last night I was able to get the right combination of tides, milky way and clear skies.

This was a small cave under the Langstone Rock at Dawlish Warren, the Milky Way came around the corner at 3:00 as predicted. A single exposure on Canon 1Dx, 15-30mm at 15mm, 30" at ISO 6,400, f3.2

A shot from under the arch, shot with my 8-15mm at 15mm, 50" at f4, ISO 5,000

almost looking straight up, I think there is a meteor in this one, there were several steraking around but not in the direction i was shooting. This is inside the arch, the lighting of the rock is from a small LED light bought in a pound shop.

The light on the right is Dawlish and the glow on the horizon is Torquay.

This was shot on the bulb setting, so 48 seconds, f4, ISO 6,400 again on the 8 - 15mm at 8mm

This was the effect I was after, shooting again on the 15-30mm at 15mm, 30" at f2.8 at ISO 6,400

A similar shot as we moved into the blue hour at around 4:00

I had pre-visulised how I wanted these to look and I am really please with how they look - there are only a couple from around 70 shots taken during the session

John, these are superb. The concept and result are magazine class.

Might make a quid or two for yourself, handled in the right way.

But even if not, may my simple thank you be of some reward. Great stuff. ???

Goodness... fabulous images, well done!

I have been trying to get it done for a year, getting all the elements is always a challenge and half the fun...

Cracking shots, I need to get much more practice with the fisheye.

Love the fish, a difficult tool to master, but worth experimenting as you get so much of the sky in your shot. I was not a fan of the round shots at first, but they give me a unique image

A big thank you, I have had quite a lot of success with astro images in most of the national, regional and local papers.   Not been in an astro magazine, so any pointers/contacts would be appreciated :)
