Welcome Chriis - I'm hoping the south Oxfordshire skies are better than South East London where I now live, as I have just agreed to buy a house near Wallingford!

Depending where you live in Oxfordshire it might be worth touching base with either Chipping Norton Astronomy Group or Abingdon Astro Soc. They are both pretty good for beginners and run observing sessions etc. (although probably not now until the autumn as the skies don't get dark)
