NGC 5139: Globular Cluster Omega Centauri - The King of The Skies

Located in Centauri constellation and distante 15,800 light years from Earth, Omega Centauri is the most massive globular cluster known with 4 million Solar masses.
It has been speculated that Omega Centauri is a Dwarf galaxy that was absorbed by our Milk Way. Indeed, Kapteyn's star, which is currently only 13 light years away, is thought to originate from Omega Centauri. Omega Centauri's chemistry and motion in the galaxy is also consistent with this picture.
Needless to say that Omega Centauri is a very peculiar globular cluster, a beauty either to be imaged or visually seen at the telscope.
This time I imaged Omega with the Quattro, an ultra fast scope, getting a substantial reduction of the integration time, comparing with the last image that I took with a refractor f/7. Please see below.

This image is a stack as follows:
Lum: 20x100sec bin1x1
R,G,B: 10x 120sec bin 1x1

Telescope:
Skywatcher Quattro CF 10"
Camera: SX694 Trio
Mount: EQ-6 Pro guided
CCD Guider: Lodestar

Transparency was good. Seeing was good all over the session (FWHM from 2.1 to 2.5)

That's a great image, colours are really good. Being in the Northern Hemisphere I cant get a look at this except with the Sidings Springs scopes and its next but one on my list to have a bash at.

Thank you very much. You don't have a view of Omega Centauri being in Northern Hemisphere, however there are some meetings in Brazil in sites with spectacular sky tha are open to everyone.  Just come down !!

Fantastic.  Currently on BBC TV (finishing tomorrow) is a programme called Stargazing Live.  It is live from Australia and they are talking about OC a lot! I suggest you immediately tweet your image to @BBCStargazing.  Your image is much better than anything they have shown.
