Cleaning the glass cover / IR screen on a camera

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have an Opticstar guide / planetary imaging camera that has managed to get quite grubby with comparatively little use and I was wondering if anyone could advise on how I might go about cleaning it. It's definitely the glass cover and not the chip (the blemishes rotate with the cover). I've had very little luck (indeed, no luck) so far. I've tried washing with water and dilute washing up liquid, Baader Optical Wonder Fluid, wiping gently with an optical cleaning cloth, using papers to dry instead of cloth, and just using a blower. The shot below is as good as I have been able to get it.

I guess my questions are;
1) Is there a way to get the cover spotless?

2) If not, is this clean enough to use for guiding (I bought it for this but have yet to get around to it)

3) Is it possible to purchase a replacement cover without buying a whole new camera.

Any advice gratefully received.

Billy
