Where to buy Optolong/Astronomik 2" CLS CCD Filter

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I wonder if you can point me in the right direction, I have spent quite a while looking to find a retailer who sells Astronomik and Optolong Filters, specifically a 2" CLS CCD version.

I can find off occurrences of the 1.25" size but no one who stocks the 50mm 2"

I understand that there are a few fakes of the Astronomik floating around, so if buy that make then will want to buy it off a dealer. Trying to find a UK dealer of the Optolong version seems quite difficult.

If any of you would be so kind as to provide a link or name of a dealer then I would really appreciate it.

Many Thanks.

Here's the Astronomik-line of filters in the UK - at Tring Astronomy Centre:

I see they have the CLS CCD you're looking for. I find no reference to 'Optology Filters' - even using Google. Perhaps a re-check of this from your notes?

By the way - I'm unfamiliar with the story of "fake Astronomik" floating (or otherwise) about. Can you find me a reference to this? I have a rather 'vested interest' in all-things-filters.'

Happy Hunting,

Dave

I believe it's the optolong ones here on eBay that are the "fake clip ins"

Hi,

Neil at Tring Astronomy Centre has a large selection of Astronomik and Baader (1.25" and 2.0") filters, most of the range is in stock at any one time. I buy the majority of my filters there as I get free advice and coffee plus biscuits.....

They appear to have the filter you want in stock...

A quick call to Neil can secure the filter for you.   They are often very busy on a Monday, because lots of people have decided over the weekend on what equipment they want to purchase.

I know nothing about the other filter you asked about.

Cheers

Adrian

Optolong are not "fake" Astronomik filters, they are just copies of the design of the clip in version, they are in fact a very good slightly cheaper alternative....but to my knowledge not yet sold by a U.K. Dealer, Aliexpress is your best bet for them....

Thanks everyone for your help, I'll ring around this morning and order one.

As for the link to the fake stuff, there are so many conflicting reports, some say Astronomik have fakes floating around, others seem to indicate Optology, so I think to be safe I'll stick with Astronomik

Thanks once again everyone.
