Adieu (Bienvenue?) Open Clusters

Recommended Posts

Took "My precious" <Gollum!> Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 out last night...
Bragging rights aside, I sense I could achieve *my level* of imaging with
either the new  "Nifty 50" (Mk.II f/1.8) or (Focal Reduced!) Altair ED66?
Maybe I should invest time re. taking less indifferent  Daytime Photos! :p

Tried some "lesser imaged" Open Clusters (cropped / messed with)
Four minutes though a Baader UHC-S (Source of the odd reflection??) :o

The Hyades (70mm). Hey, I had quite forgotten about NGC 1647 tho! ;)

Praesepe - The Beehive (200mm). Whatever --- Can't beat the NATURAL "framing" stars! :)

Very nice images, and  hey!  I dont think I have ever looked at 1647, so thanks for the heads-up :)

That, my friend, is the famous "Mystery Blob"! ;)

On thinking about it, later, I now strongly suspect it is some sort of
"internal reflection" of Aldebaran. I WAS having some difficulties re.
screwing the 2" UHC-S filter into (67->50->48mm!) filter adapters
I suspect I got the threads crossed so the filter was at an angle! :evil4:

Aside: I have noted this issue with Baader (Interference?) Filters
that have this highly reflective coating! Sometimes they can be
just be at "wrong place" and generate reflections such as these.

No great fault implied, but sadly no FAME --- for either of us! :D
