Moons & Jupiter

Recommended Posts

Just as I was going to bed I spotted Jupiter next to the moon, so after checking on Sky Safari I thought I'd get them in the same fov with my baby tak and 24mm panoptic.

A little later there they were. An almost full moon bright and crisp, in perfect focus, near the edge and Jupiter near the other edge with all four of its moons lined neatly in a row, three one side with Io on the other. The moons were tiny, but very bright specs, whilst Jove itself was a very small white disc. After a while I could just about discern a hint of colour banding the planet.

This is the first time I've had a scope out of any sort for quite a while, so it was very pleasing to be rewarded with such a rare sight. Spontaneity and the little tak are a good match. :)
