Hi Alex ....

I am currently using the 0.15.1 version ......

I am interested in trying out the new version .... but .... will have to uninstall my current version or will they run side-by-side while I evaluate it?

Regards Mike

Hi Mike,

You can install both versions in separate directories ;)

Help! I've tried installing several versions of Stellarium since v0.13.1 and now this latest 0.15.2RC1. Every time I launch it, it simply crashes at the start-up splash screen.

I'm running Win10 64-bit and this is the log file...

Alex

To let you know, it runs well on my Windows 10 64 bit machine thus far. Installed into same directory. All settings migrated across and, so far, I'm pleased.

Thanks for all the efforts

Simon

fireballxl5, could you try run Stellarium in ANGLE or standard mode?

yes, I tried angle and one other exe in the folder (maybe standard, can't remeber) this morning (latest RC1) with the same result.

Please give me a log.txt from Stellarium

I've been exploring this update - with no problems detected. It 'feels' a bit faster responding here and there. On the above note from Scosmico, I checked out the comets - and Wow! You weren't exagerrating in the least. That really grabs the eyes!

Great work - Alex & Company!

All the best,

Dave

Hi Alex,

I guess you mean the standard install rather than RC1? I've tried running Stellarium previously using the standard download as explained above (at least from v0.13.1) with the same problem. I was hoping that the very latest version fixed the problem.

I've tried running as admin and compatibility mode options with the same result. With RC1 I get the following dialog (text extracted from dialog below) when running the Compatibility Troubleshooter

I'd love to give Stellarium a try. Maybe it's down to not having the correct support files?

I just installed this on a W10 64bit machine (was previously using 0.15.1). While having a quick play I hit a very rare snag!

When going to the satellites plug-in and selecting "iridium flares" then "predict iridium flares", Stellarium just hangs.

First there is just no activity but a normal arrow cursor. After a few seconds the cursor becomes the spinning "busy" cursor. I have to close Stellarium via the Task Manager.

Does not work for me :( , the display is overlaid for about 2/3 in left lower screen by a rectangular lighter area that cannot be dismissed ( changes to red with night view otherwise I cannot do anything else with it. )

After installation on first run  there was a popup that said I was lacking something so did I want to continue in degraded mode, I said yes, with the above result. On re-running I cannot reproduce that error message to know (or tell you) what I lacked :(

Laptop - Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1 ( pre installed by vendor) (second hand !)

So back to my previous v.11 on another (old Vista) laptop, which works well for what I need :)

Is there a diagnostic prog that I can run, first, to determine what this Win7 (or my other machines variously Win7 and Win8  laptops & desktops)  need to be able to run it (or even the 15.1) ?

Stellarium predicts Iridium flashes with depth in week and we can't accurate calculate all events in one-two seconds of time. Please be more patient for this feature - he may use few seconds (may be tens of seconds on slow computers) for calculation.

Could you try rename this directory: C:\\Users\\fireball\\AppData\\Roaming\\Stellarium to get a clean config.ini file and data for all plugins? Possible some data has invalid format or broken files. I hope you can found source of crashes and share a file which caused this problem.

Could you try run Stellarium in MESA mode (Start -> Programs -> Stellarium -> Stellarium (MESA mode))?

I have now reproduced the original problem msg. with Start -> Programs -> Stellarium -> Stellarium  ,  and it is saying :-

"Your OpenGL subsystem has problems."

So it looks like I need a newer openGL version, what functionality may I be missing if I dont install new openGL and continue in MESA mode ?

Thanks.

Thanks Alex, you are correct. It takes about 3 minutes or more to calculate the Iridium Flares.

I usually have Stellarium in full screen mode and when it's calculating irridiums there is no other response, can't minimise the screen etc to go and do something else while it calculates. So it seemed as though it had stopped running.

But now I know to be more patient. It works!
