I just found about these while researching the orion on edge set. I would really love to get a couple but most are on back order and I have just been told that they have been for years.  Is this true or should I wait?  Should I just order the two I want from orion even though they are twice the price? I would wait but I don't wanna wait years lol.  Any info is greatly appreciated,  Can I get the zhumell pieces somewhere else idk. Thank you very much.

The best thing to do, imho, is to try to find out who also sells them under different brand-names. And that would be pretty easy if you can chase them back to who actually makes them in (I have no doubts) China - PR-China or Taiwan. Then go over each of these that sells them within your shipping-range of these companies. Of course - picking the outfit with the lowest price.

I know who is the closest thing to being an expert in this field of study. And I'll make a point of asking him later on today. In the meanwhile could you throw me a link for them, preferablly with a image in this? You said 'Orion' has them? Great - give me a link to Orion's offering.

This should work for you!

I think you're in the US? That would help to know. My friend can use that information to narrow things down.

I'l start crafting the questions to him. I'll be in touch once I've heard what he tells me.

I'll also send you a PM to ensure you've gotten my response,

Dave - in Vermont, US

Okay - that was almost too easy! I'd forgotten we have 2 'Eyepiece-Nuts' over in my other hat-peg! First some other data:

Both have said these are excellent eyepieces. They have about 20mm of Eye-Relief (E.R.) and a 55° Field-Of-View (FOV). And in terms of quality all-around: They are worth every ¢ of the highest of their prices. No wonder Zhumell has all but vanished!

These EP's (eyepieces) are manufactured by:

LONG PERNG CO.,LTD

In Taiwan (Republic Of China)

Okay - sources known at the current time:

AgenaAstro - several sizes available, but here's one of them at Agena:

And the other is from Stellarview:

And you have the Orion yourself! :p Actually that was a poor link you sent me for them. Here's a better one for Orion:

http://www.telescope.com/Accessories/Telescope-Eyepieces/Orion-Edge-On-Planetary-125-Eyepieces/pc/-1/c/3/sc/47/e/68.uts

So it would appear that Orion has the best price, sort of. But if you paid for them at AgenaAstro, you might come out ahead. Orion will charge you an arm & leg for shipping. Agena doesn't charge anything - their price includes everything. One of the reasons I give Agena my business as a rule.

And from one of my expert-friends (whom you might meet later):

" Then of course Zhumel and Orion themselves, these are excellent eyepieces at give away prices."

They think they're worth far more. Rather TeleVue® quality EP's in their beliefs! And the TeleVue® equivalents would run well over $300 each.

So that ought to hold you! :D

Thanks So much for your time!  What a big help you have been! I've also received an email from telescopes.com that says the z series coming back into stock is doubtful. Again thank you and your friend for taking the time to research this for me, if there's anything I can do in return let me know.

I've noticed that unless an eyepiece line sells really well, importers typically just try to sell out their initial order stock.  Right now, it's the Paradigm/Starguider/BST Explorer line that is selling well and being reordered on a regular basis by multiple resellers.

There was some discussion about this on a previous thread (see below), but from a more UK/European perspective and without mentioning the Zhumell brand. I picked up two of the Altairs second hand from an SGL member, very nice eyepieces for the money.
