Handling DEC backlash with the MGEN autoguider

I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this question but I'm hoping to get some answers here so here it goes.

Apparently my autoguider can handle the DEC backlash but I don't really know how to set it up.

How do I know what direction to disable, when do I disable up or down?

Have never touched this setting on mine, so cannot help.

My HEQ5 is always east heavy, I rarely image west of meridian and I spent time removing most backlash when
I overhauled the mount.
