Astrogloves - special offer

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure where this should go but as any cold-weather observer might have a need I hope this is an appropriate place.

Now the cold weather is coming to an end the highly regarded gloves you can see here

http://www.astrogloves.net/

are on sale at £5 off.  You can read the reviews by professional astronomers on their site.  They show you how to measure the size and will refund if you get it wrong.  Perhaps too late for this season but maybe an early Christmas present for next winter?

My good lady recently bought me a pair of neoprene fishermans gloves from a well known budget supermarket that had them on offer, (about £5.00 I think), thinking that they would be good for Astro work. A very kind thought. They are  a little bit similar to these, except all finger tips are open.

I have yet to try them out in practice but they feel comfortable enough.

My mother brought me a pair of these for Christmas and they are very good, I would advise going for a size bigger though. She brought me a medium and had to change them for a large, I'm 5' 10" and of average build so people bigger then me would probably find even the large size too tight. But as I said, they are very good, well designed and really keep out the cold.

They look good and you really only need the thumb and forefinger open for most things.  Too late for me.  Ordered the astrogloves this morning!

I got my wife to run the tape measure around my hand and have gone for the medium but it's good to have the fallback of a free replacement.

I got these from Santa for Christmas ...

... only £8.99 at time of writing, and work very well.  I have a PC next to the mount and type using all fingers, so these are good.

Looks like a good tip.  They remind me of the greengrocer stalls in the street market when I was a lad in the forties.  The stall holders all had fingerless gloves in the winter.

Actually, no (finger) tips at all... :icon_biggrin:

Ive got 2 pairs of gloves. One (first link) are mainly for use with wheelchair. The second pair are equally as good in the wheelchair and im guessing better for astronomy. They are thin, soft, warm, water resistant and have a good grip on them.

What brilliant simple idea. Leaving a couple of fingers permanently covered.

My best astro gloves were a Christmas present from my son. They are thick and warm 'greengrocer' fingerless.
But with a mitten style finger cover stitched on at the knuckles.
This has velcro and folds back towards a velcro pad on the wrist to allow twiddling, then can be pulled over your fingers to keep warm.

My daughter bought me a "large" pair for Christmas.  I must have hands like buckets as they still didn't fit (I did keep wicket for 40 years).

On seeing the advertisment in this thread, it suggests that "23cm to 27cm = large".  Don't be fooled. I am merely 24cm and they are so tight that my fingers are constricted of blood. Now looking for a cyclists fingerless glove alternative.
