Hey guys, I'm after some advice about the neximage 5! Is it any good as a dual purpose camera?

I will be using it for autoguiding with phd2 and for imaging planets!

Thanks for any help?

Celestron says yes http://www.celestron.com/media/796103/93711_NexImage5_Manual_F.pdf (page 10)

It all comes down to your price limit. Neximage 5 is older generation and not as good as (ZWO, QHY, Altair...) cameras with more modern sensors. It also doesn't have ST4 port, so you would need direct mount connection with the PC for guiding (like annoying RS232 for SW mounts)

Neximage 5 is a glorified webcam, you'll get just as good results with a £5 ps3 eyecam and £15 worth of adapters (at least for planets), and better results still with the 120mc.

I know, I've had all 3 and now on a 224mc (which is superb imo)
