lukebl
Idiot that I am, I dropped my obsy laptop and completely smashed the screen. The good news, though, is that the rest of it still works with an external monitor. Is it possible to easily remove the old flip-top screen, so that it doesn't get in the way, effectively using the laptop as a desktop computer? Cornelius Varley
Can you remove the existing screen ? Yes, possibly. Is it easy ? This will depend upon the laptop model. Inside the frame might be a webcam and sometimes the laptops wifi aerial and activity lights, so you might need to consider what you will do with these. Davey-T
Should be easy to get a new screen and most are easy to change but a few are not, the Dell XPS for instance are glued in and a bit of a pig to get the new one to restick. Dave
Alien 13
To remove the screen you will normally have to take off the laptop top plate and disconnect the flexi wiring from its connector and undo the mechanical fittings on the lid, at this point its just as easy to fit a new one. Alan P.S. its work getting an online guide or better still a workshop manual if available (I was lucky that my lappy has the full set of manuals available) Edited February 4, 2017 by Alien

lukebl
Thanks for the input, folks. It's Pretty old, so probably not worth fixing. Just found an identical model on the auction site for just £50. Cheaper than a new screen!
