PIER MOUNT FOR MY EQ

LOOKING FOR INFO ON BUILDING EITHER A BRAKE ROTOR, OR STEAL PLATE MOUNT FOR MY SUPER POLARIS EQ . PLANNING ON MOUNTING THIS TO A POST,

PLEASE HELP WITH DESIGN/SUGGESTIONS.

I think you will get more rigidity by dumping the four bolts method and using a welded construction.

Why the last few inches with air and bolts?

I have a eq from tripod, want to mount to steal plate if possible, need room for my hand to unscrew bolt for eq when done observing that night.

any ideas ?

So I want a open mount that's do - able ?

This mount has room to get the hand in to the bolt..... see the cave like hole.

I believe it is called an 'Owl's Nest' type.

How do you level the top plate with this arrangement?  (Thats what the bolts and nuts are there for really isnt it?

There is no need.

Polar alignment is done using the equatorial mount.

As long as the axis is aligned, the plate level doesn't matter..... Within reason!
