Can I check image flatness with Flat frame?

Recommended Posts

I now have my new TS 80mm refractor and field flattener.  I have pretty much sorted out the spacing to within 0.5mm and would like to check it, but like many at the moment "I ain't got no stars" as they say in Bermondsey.

Question is do I need a star field image to check the flatness with CCD inspector, or can this be done with a flat panel image?

No a flat frame won't help you, flat frames are for fixing vignetting/dustmotes and have no stars so there's star diameters to measure to see if you got a flat or curved field.

Perfect thanks :thumbright:

On second thoughts Dave I've just checked the temperature and it's -2 feels like -6 here at the moment!  Maybe I'll just look at the vignetting :icon_biggrin:

C'mon Ray man up, i've been out and set up ready
