Advice on Heart Nebula - IC 1805

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

was hoping for a bit of advice about sub lengths for imaging the heart. I'm using a modified dslr -but unguided (longest I've tried without trailing is 2 mins on a good day). Will this be enough to extract some detail out of the nebula if I were to acquire 2 or so hours of data? Not seen many posts of the heart with unguided setups and afraid I'm just not quite at the stage to start guiding

Cheers,

ali

It's moderately bright so you should do OK (I assume you're using the 150PDS at f5 or f4.5 with a reducer). Here's a single 2 minute sub (processed a bit) at f3.5 and 135mm focal length.

... and this is 38 minutes at f3.5 (cropped a bit).

So a roughly comparable amount of signal if you can manage your target of 2 hours.

You might want to check the framing though, will it all fit in with a 150PDS?
