R CrB for binos & small'scope

Recommended Posts

Sad to report that R CrB was a no-show last night in my 10x50 :(

I had high hopes, a good sky, NE on all the main stars of U.Min so must have been NELM ~5.5 ? unusual for the UK these days.

'Twas  not to be, I had trouble getting mag7 low in the east, so I think I can say that R CrB has not yet done anythings spectacular over and above the mag8 previously reported at AAVSO !

Another superb, even better'n'colder, sky in the SW.

LM 7.4 in 10x50, still no R CrB ! :)

EDIT, brief look later : yea ! hello R CrB, it has been a long time  :), ,   comparison 7.4 now easy at 4:10am(local) and R CrB is a little averted. Shall we say approx 7.6 ( but that comparison one is a little more distant and I'm no expert)

time for bed, thanks for your company.  brrrr

Bump!

And, just a little while later (!) a quick peek at 3:45 local, it continues to rise !,, a bit poor haze in the sky, not remarkably transparent so didnt want to make a mag. estimate ( but it was considerably brighter than HIP 77373) so no reason to doubt the estimates in AAVSO which have it just less than mag6. - Approaching its  historical ( been following this'un since the '60s!) mag5.8 ish give/take.

I do like things that change in the night sky, this one used to dim some times (infrequenty)  and the game was to catch it when low, now it is havin'a'larf :)
