Not sure to be honest, I am tempted. That said I think i need to get clear in my mind what I should be using with current equipment I have.

I am guessing that my asi224mc is probably the best camera for capturing the UV part of the signal. This with the No47 & IR filter, or the U filter if I get one.

Looking at chart for the Astronomic IR filter it looks to me that is going to be better than the "L" filter that comes with the type 2 RGB set. As it at least passes something in the 300-400 nm range, according to their data 30%

your right Pete its all about the numbers. As I am sure your aware SCTs block some too But most consider it usable for Venus regardless. There are so many variations including Barlow's  and even types of glass. The way I look at it each time you reduce absorption or blocking, the detail can go up. Other things like seeing collimation, aside. its all about the numbers. if you try again 30% is better than what you have been getting. I would try that. There are no figures for the Altair filter I am using.

But clearly its letting something through. just not enough.

Personally I am still going to figure the BG39 leak problem with W47 I have read some actually prefer this filter system as it lets more light through. So a ideal situation would be to have both A U Venus filter

W47 BG39 would be more useful under poorer seeing letting more light through, faster exposure and frame rate beating the seeing.

So are you thinking of trying the optolong

Don't tell anyone, but there goes the Christmas money.......

I have ordered it today  :o i think i just looked at too many Venus images and couldn't see any other way of getting around it. I just hope it's worth the steep investment

Do you think it will best paired with the ASI224mc ?

I Haven't looked at the UV for the camera. But I am not sure its suitable. I would go with mono. Did you order the 2" version

No the 1.25" neil. I had been saving  money for the new Lunt focuser, but there is no sign of that making its way to the UK yet and the sun is very quiet presently.

Not sure about what's happening with the Baader filters. Like the optolong, I remember the 1.25 having a slight IR leak. I then read they took it off the market. But improved the coatings on the 2" version to control the leak. Maybe its now been sorted on the 1.25 version.
