New Year Comet

There is a reasonably bright comet on view in Capricornus -  Comet Honda.  It's quite low in the evening sky, but Venus gives a good pointer.  Over the next week it's heading towards Theta Cap.  I saw it last night in a 4" refractor, it's around mag. 8 and brightening, it might be visible in 15x70s if you have a clear horizon.

Just glimpsed  it on Boxing Day with 15x70 after several previous attempts. Very low and very faint but brightening.

Thats good to know - well spotted ! it's moving north every day, so becoming slightly better placed.

Had a go tonight with 15x70 bins, but could not find it.

Tried with my 20x80 bins these past two evenings without success, will have to go up on the hillfort to seek a better horizon

It just shows up on a 50mm lens and camera, would be better without all the LP too.

Looks promising this evening - don't expect anything like this though !

Hi Everyone.

Will Comet HONDA be visible through this year "2017" or the start of it should I say, sure I read something on NASA about it being visible a few month into to 2017 not sure, I found it with stellarium but I'm still grasping and learning as you do, life's just one big knowledge fest lol cheers.
