In addition, a lot of bugs have been fixed.
- wait() and waitFor() in the Scripting Engine no longer inhibits performance of moves.

Thanks Alexander downloaded the latest version. Not sure what is happening - it loads up okay and then Windows flashes 'that a problem caused it to close'. This has happened several times.

Stellarium 0.14 worked okay since it was released.

Shall I uninstall and start again?

Alexander - an update

I removed the new version and reinstalled and it seems to be working okay. I had to download the additional star catalogue plus details of my scope and eyepieces but that did not take long. Just need to update the Comet data - I assume the procedure is the same as before?

Thank You Alexander! Windows10 64 bit on two machines here.

I did things just a tad differently (maybe). When downloading Stellarium 15.1, instead of putting it into or on-top of my existing version, I gave it a folder titled Stellarium 15.1. And it did a clean and working installation. Apparently...

Then I discovered it wiped out the information in my 15.0 version. Now that kinda tee'd me off, because I have to reenter my info to replace the examples given of 15.1, kinda buggy, wouldn't you say?

Personally, I don't need candy coated choices. Just a few simple workable ones. Like 15.0 had.

And while I'm bending your ear anyway, is there a way to make the Meridian and Prime vertical lines to stay by default so I don't have to set them up every time I open Stellarium?

I might revert to 15.0 just for the simplicity of it over the latest 15.1 version. But having the 15.1 putting me back to zero has me miffed. :icon_scratch: Back to putting my particular settings and pertinent info in...

It works, but... :D

Isn't that a little unfair given you chose to do a complete clean install? If you had chosen to upgrade the existing installation I'm sure it would have retained your settings.

Not at all Ken. They should have been, and stayed as, two separate copies of Stellarium. One folder 15.0, the other 15.1.

But 15.1 over-rode the other version, apparently automatically. They should have remained as two individual programs for evaluation, without one over riding the previous version.

It is a rather minor inconvenience to me. But someone with a rather lengthy file of Oculars, Sensors, and Telescopes could have a job on their hands.

Don't read something in that isn't there. I love Stellarium as a program, and it controls my telescope slewing all around the night skies. But it should not over-ride other versions arbitrarily, unless asked to.

And if these quirks are not mentioned, then development cannot be refined. Such as the Meridian and Prime Vertical default adjustments, for example. Some settings stay, others go away when the program is shut down, then reopened another day. It would be nice to have some inconsistencies adjusted, if possible. Anyway, back to fixing...

I haven't installed 15.1 yet. I'm running Windows 8.1 in a classic shell. But whever I install a program, I always presume it will require my entering all my personal-settings all from scratch. If I don't have to, I'd be surprised. But it doesn't bother me to do so. Entering such is mindless entertainment in my view.

I guess I'm fortunate to look at it the way I do? No trouble to remember how deep I want to go with the stars? What magnitude? How many deep-sky nebula go on my screen without being jammed-full? <yawn> et al.

My 'auto-pilot' engaged,

Dave

What? I hope you do not check option "Remove the main configuration file" in installer?

I've:

1) Run Stellarium

2) Checked Meridian and Prime vertical visible (in 'Sky... window')

3) Pressed "Save as defaults" button (in 'Configuration window')

4) Restart Stellarium

5) I see Meridian and Prime vertical

Same effect possible through editing config.ini file of course

Not that I was aware of, Alexander. I tried to get two individual installations, the working 15.0; and the second new one 15.1 to check out.

I love Stellarium, and it takes me anywhere in the Universe. I recommend it to anyone. And it can help learn about many things, and equipment configurations for beginners.

That worked. I have my meridian, and prime vertical locked in now. Thank You!

Stellarium can run with different settings, but it requires some 'hand made' work and we propose it for advanced users only (or for specific instances)

Re-entering everything isn't a problem. Unless it disappears completely. Then I have to go back and get the pertinent details again from other sources (like manufacturer sites).

Certainly not a problem, but a bother that should not have been. If anything, copying the existing data would have been expected with upgrading. I was hoping for a second install that didn't interfere with my existing.

So I could look it over first. But for the new version to wipe the old was a no-no.

I run a classic shell as well. I have since Windows 3.11. I don't like caricatures or tooty-fruity on my screen. I'm not even too hot about App's. :angryfire: Yeah. I'm weird.

Hoping to warn others, and to enlighten Alexander about what it did. And it appears a few others have found a few bugs. No big deal, often occurs with changes.

I had it tuned to my needs and ways. Now I will retune it. I usually do that with programs, when I can and as I grow with them.

I understand what Alex is trying to point out: I just installed the 0.15.1 on top of my previous 0.15.0. When the 'Install' dialog came up, I noted it was checked-off on 3 of the 4 settings asking if you wanted to remove previous settings & data cache. If this is by 'default' I do not know. But I un-checked all of them before proceeding.

All my settings remained intact - no problems. And it's a great, new version! I'm loving all the new goodies onboard. I install/uninstall mountains of stuff here, so I don't know if these being pre-checked-off is a new thing - but just keep your eyes peeled for this when you do the deed & un-check 'em. I'm running Windoze 8.1, by the way.

Enjoy -

Dave

Just installed 0.15.1 on top of my 0.15.0 windows 7 64, and so far have no problems to report. It just keeps getting better!

EDIT, just tried out the DSS view, very nice indeed, but does seem to use a lot of video card resources, not surprising I suppose, I'm using a 2560 x 1600 display.
