wookie1965
http://www.argos.co.uk/product/3603150 Thinking of getting this power my EQ5 Goto and dew strips will this be enough, as funds are limited I cannot afford a leisure battery at present with a battery charger to go with it. Just wanted something can take in the car so can set up anywhere will this do the trick.
nightfisher
No reason why it would not work, not sure how long you would get from it due to the heater strips, i guess some one with a little more knowledge will be along soon
MarkyD
It is only 10Ah. So say 2 amps for fast tracking on the mount and 1 amp for a single 14W dew heater that's 3 amps. The battery will last approx 3 hours before needing a recharge. This is not taking into account of efficiency and temperature which will effect run time. You would be better off getting one of these for almost twice the capacity at the same price(ish) http://www.batterybayuk.com/batteries-chargers/electric-toy-vehicle-batteries-replacement-batteries-for-peg-perego-feber-indusa-john-deere-caterpillar/lucas-12v-18ah-sla-battery

wookie1965
What is the difference between this http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/battery-chargers-jump-starters/phaze-4-in-1-jump-starter and this https://www.firstlightoptics.com/batteries-powerpacks/skywatcher-powertank-17ah.html Will the first one give me the same power. Davey-T
Both the same power you're just paying for all the extras on the SW one. It's useful to get the power pack style as they usually come with a light that you can cover in red plastic, USB sockets as well as lighter sockets. When the battery dies it's easy enough to replace it with a better one. Dave
wookie1965
Thank you Dave I was worried about surge really but if both the same I will go for the cheaper alternative both got 17ah so should easy last a session. Paul

wookie1965
Ordered 70ah marine battery and a battery charger son going to make a box for the battery just need something line it with now to insulate it with.
cjdawson
Thought you might find these pictures useful from a project that I did a couple of years ago. The quick overview is that it's a JCB Site system box on wheels, you can get these at B&Q. It's a bit oversized for a 70Ah battery, but that leaves a little room for extra things (I also keep an EL Panel and 12v hair dryer in mine.) The wheels are great as it saves my back lugging the heavy battery about. On the fron there is a batter meter from e-bay. There's also a volate and ammeter on the side (if I was making this project again, I'd put that on the front as well) To the left there are 2 * 2 USB charger sockets (each has a switch, as the USB sockets have a blue LED) And 4 cigar lighter sockets. I used the marine style ones rather than the car style. This means that they will accept the marine style plugs, which can lock in place. On the side is an XLR socket, this is what I use to power my scope, the socket locks into place. The side has a couple of jump starter posts. These are to allow me to recharge the battery easily. I'd not try jumping a car from a leisure battery. The cabling inside is all rated to 50A, I've used crimp connected and added a fuse box. This way should I overload any of the sockets, the fuse should fail rather than anything else. Inside the box, I've also added a 150W inverter. This is something that I've not really needed to use, it's there more of a just in case as I had it already. The battery is insulated using the board that you get for putting in walls. There is a piece of cardboard between the insulation and the electrics to prevent shorts, as the surface of the insulated is covered in foil. You'll also see that I've covered some of the screws with tape, again to aid prevention of short circuits. Thought you'd like to see this to give you some ideas for the box for your battery. Honestly, I love this project. I also love that you can get cases (I have three) that stack on top for keeping the rest of your gear inside. However, a word of warning, between the 3 cases and this box, my car boot is completely filled!
wookie1965
That is a belting box to involved for me would not know were to start. I was just going to get my son make a wooden box with polystyrene insulation. Although if I can get a box with wheels on like that will help my back rather than picking the thing up. Starlight 1
You got a cover over the fuse box but no covers over the ends to the wires and its on the out side.may be the inside hard to see.
cjdawson
Here's the link to the cart. http://www.diy.com/departments/jcb-deep-tool-cart-w465mm-d480mm/1000636_BQ.prd And here's the small boxes that I have which stack on top. http://www.diy.com/departments/jcb-small-organiser-tool-box-w350mm-d165mm/995721_BQ.prd You can also get this... http://www.diy.com/departments/jcb-medium-tool-box-w350mm-d310mm/995722_BQ.prd If you want a deeper box. It would count as 2 of the smaller ones. As for where to start. Get that box, you'll then have a completely sealed water tight box. From there, put the battery in, add the insulation. Then you'll see where you can run the wires. Something like this for the fuse box. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuse-Blade-Fuses-Holder-Block/dp/B01MYTRKEM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482505408&sr=8-2&keywords=blade+fuse+box+8+way Something similar to this for USB charging http://www.marinesuperstore.com/wiring/outlets-plugs/osculati-usb-socket-01?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=pcn&utm_term=99415297&utm_campaign=MSS&gclid=CjwKEAiAs_PCBRD5nIun9cyu01kSJAA-WD-rGm4dPSYdyqnlHsXWRZIMyXXXUTMWQtcxEfgApKNxqBoCJobw_wcB This for the 12v auto sockets. http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/blue-sea-systems-weatherproof-12v-dc-socket.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAs_PCBRD5nIun9cyu01kSJAA-WD-rWK5G0T8dCi6IsO5cptujez32kyoIgy8wJgE3CxhMKBoCWL3w_wcB Two off these (one for the positive and one for the negative) http://www.boatelectricals.co.uk/block-mounted-bus-bar-10-way/ What happens is that you take a feed from the battery into this bar. Then use crimps to connect wires to each of the screws, one wire, goes to the fuse box, then to the socket of your choice. (USB, 12v Auto, XLR, etc) From the other side of the socket, the wire comes back, to a screw on the other bus bar. Which then feeds back into the battery. The fusebox and all the wiring is inside the box. If look at the picture of the front of the box, you'll see 6 white dots (they're bolts) these go through to the inside of the box. The fuse box and other stuff is on opposite side of the box.

Cheers for that looks like a project in the new year for me then now showed parts does not look that difficult what cross section are you using for the cables obviously two different sizes one for USB`s and One for the tails to go to the Battery. Sounds like a plan. Actually. I'm not a million miles away from you, so we might be able to meet up in the new year if you want a hand. It's a good weekend project, and I've got all the tools that you need to do the job. The main thing is getting the parts together. It's dead easy as everything is crimped together. 2 minutes ago, Starlight 1 said: Do you think covers will be much safer as to things rolling around in the box. Sure you can make a cover, but frankly when the battery is installed the insulation is in and the protective piece of cardboard is in place. It's absolutely fine.
