M31 - Andromeda Galaxy - 05-08-08

Not a great image but my best one of this object to date, processing not great, too noisy and reducing for the web just made it worse. Could do with lots more subs and still got lots to learn on processing,

ED80 and 400D with Neodymium LP filter on EQ5, 54 Min's exposure - 20 x 160s + 14 x 60s all at ISO800.

You do yourself an injustice Brendant, a lot of people would be very happy to get an image like that.

There's always room for improvement in all of our images, that's what keeps us 'at it', and we are sometimes over critical of our own results.

That said, there ain't too much wrong with that one.

Despite your own appraisal, I think it is a very good image, detail in the dust lanes, core not burnt out, smooth surface - I'd be very pleased with that!

Cracking image, can't wait till M31 is better placed for imaging . As already commented love the balance between the core and arms/dust lanes sharp stars etc..

Thanks everyone for the kind comments, its nice to get back imaging again, lets hope we get some more clear nights soon, they are certainly a scarce commodity, pouring rain again as usual.

That is a very nice image Brendan it certainly beats all of my attempts hands down. plus when you get the extra subs then it should look amazing, remember that M31 is big and bright over, but it has lots of very faint details which can be hard to get
