Astrobits
As title. You can adopt a star of your choosing from their database for one year and you get a certificate, map and at the end of the year a light curve for $30. At least you will get a star that you can find easily and contribute to a non-profit making organisation to further the study of variable stars. Go to www.aavso.org and click on the link. ChrisLX200
Sounds like one of the better Star Naming schemes out there! I often wondered why SETI didn't get in on the act to raise some funds, they could use the angle that you may be 'buying' the star that first shows signs of extra-terrestrial life. It's a stretch I know, but at least your money would be going to a worthwhile cause instead of lining some spiv's pocket ChrisH
bish
Good idea fro AAVSO. A bit like when you donate to the WWF and they send a pic of the animal you adopted, etc.
