Arduino focus control for DC AND stepper motors?

The connected board is temperature sensor DS18B20. I built the focuser as a prototype on a breadboard. It works nice.
I have only less than 800 steps from a minimal to a maximal position of focuser. Isn't it little? I have Crayford focuser on SW Newton 200/1000 with SW motor focuser. I'll have to test it on the stars but it's always cloudy here. Is it possible to make steps smaller? I use code from this site: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mydcfocuserrelativedcfocuser/files/CODE ARDUINO/
