Some of my first shots shown here...

With so many outstanding pics from mighty rigs and experienced astrophotographers, here are some of my efforts from a EQ2+RA motor.  Either with 130P or by just mounting my DSRL directly onto the mount.

Sony A6000 and Sigma 70-200/2.8

Thanks all!  I'm hoping for even better with a new mount and scope for christmas :icon_biggrin:

About aligning the EQ2 - I set the scope up to be as parallel as I can with the mount axis then adjust the AZ/ALT so I can see polaris in the middle of the eyepiece.   Then I try a drift method.  The trouble is, the EQ2 AZ/ALT adjustment is pretty crude and just tightening the bolts can be enough to move it - it's all a bit hit and miss.   Trial and error and many nights of just being unlucky with just a poor alignment.

Nice shots. It just shows its worth trying even with basic equipment. I also have an eq2 mount and I fitted a red dot finder to the ra axis of the mount to aid initial polar alignment. I just mount my dlsr directly on top of the mount(no scoepe). I use live view to focus on a bright star and then take a 30 second shot to see which way the stars trail and then make small adjustments in altitude or azimuth and take another picture and repeat this process until no more trails(best I have got is 30 sec at 300mm focal length).

There is a lot of play in the system on an eq2 motor drive train though so sometimes one shot looks ok then the next shot trails a bit so its not perfect but deep sky stacker removes the trail stars anyway so I do lots of 30 second shots and pick the best.

Anyway here are some that I took. I cant remember if these were 30second shots (they might have been 10) but I have improved my technique a bit since I took these. I will post any new successulful 30 sec exposures when I get them, weather and time permitting of course?
