I need to Get a Telescope

Recommended Posts

I uploaded a few posts on getting a 16" dobsonian telescope. Thanks to everyone who helped out. I don't think I am financially capable of getting one of those, so instead I am looking to get an 8" one preferably dobsonian. I know these can cost up to £400 so I was thinking of selling a life size TARDIS that I have had since I was a kid. The thing is literally a homemade police box. I cannot send a picture but how much do you think something like that would sell for?

Thanks,

Corkey

Hello Corkey. I am sure we have been here before. Did not the members give loads of advice about a 16" and me and Tiny Small have a lively debate about Aperture ?.

A skywatcher 200p would be a very nice scope to begin with ,aperture for DSO especially at a dark site would be very good and nice on planets. A very good all round scope that will take you from beginner to intermediate level

Sorry I do not know anything about TARDIS, but maybe someone who does will be along soon or maybe Doctor Who ?

Once you start collecting telescopes, you won't have room for them and a Tardis.  Something's gotta give!

Doug.

Don't listen to him! When you run out of room for your telescopes you just have to upgrade your house. Simple.

I know you need to raise the cash, but stop and think whether you might be glad for the Tardis to house your Dobsonian in once you have it.

I was thinking the same.

If it is weather proofed for outside use, then it would make a unique roll off obsy if you add some wheels and track, (assuming you have a level garden/yard and the neighbours don't object to it).

I don't know... my patio is like 2 metres wide. Lol

Sorry but have to agree, selling something you have had for a lifetime is something you might regret. And what happens if it turns out this hobby isn't for you after all? You might be left with a telescope you never use and got rid of something you treasure. Sorry to be harsh but I would say just be patient and save up or keep your eyes open for a good deal, or both.

surely with a Tardis in the garden, there is an infinite amount of room for telescopes :)

I think I agree with popeye though, only sell it because you don't want it any more. Now you've settled for an 8" dob, you can pick one of these up, second hand, for under £200. Then after you've been at it for a year or two, then you decide to sell it in order to pay for your 16" :)

Sorry, I'd not taken account of it being a real Tardis!  If it's up for sale, I'm in.

It is lifesize, with controls and stuff, but is is unfortunately not bigger on the inside and no time travel! Lol
