Focal Reducer - SW Esprit 120

Evening all,

Having started in AP, I have found that I'll probably want a focal reducer sometime soon.

Can anyone advise if  the following would be suitable for my SW Esprit 120:

It seems its  ES specific ff/fr reading a few posts elsewhere, I have never had one so maybe someone with  experience will come along, would not like you to make an expensive mistake so good luck

I assume you already have the stock flattener?

No, not got the flattener yet. Wanted to get more experience with AP before getting one.  The FR makes more sense at the moment.

there seems to be many combined ff/fr on the market, ashame SW don't do a combo for the Esprit range

Yes, that is the one I have.  I would suggest that that is the one to go for.

I would recommend that you stick to the flattener designed specifically for this telescope (as suggested by Scott and Gnomus above) as this will ensure the best possible star shapes right to the edge of the field of view. 'Universal' field flatteners seldom work as well as those designed just for the instrument in use.

It's not the field flattener I am after.   I am looking for a suitable Focal Reducer!

It would probably work, but it's something you would have to test and i guess you would need to get adapters made for it too.

Something that will for sure work is the TS PHOTOLINE 3" 0,79x Reducer and you would also need an adapter for it making it a costly option, but definitely worth it for the added speed.
