Sketches

ic410 (Tadpoles) and Flaming Star neb

Data captured last night in a lengthy session that ended at 6am. Yawn. This is a bi-colour image of 10 x 20min per channel (Ha and OIII 3nM). Still lacking the SII channel - only so many hours in a night! I'm also going to do an [Ha]LRGB on this same target if the weather co-operates. Conditions were good earlier on in the night but mist/fog became persistant later. I should have done the OIII first I think..

Scope: NP127is + WFC, Moravian G4-16000, 10-Micron GM2000HPS-II, Chroma filters.

Thanks Tim but you post your image!

The best I have seen of this target--I really like the nebulosity the tadpoles are swimming toward.  Truly exceptional

It's a long way off that imho, but thanks anyway :)

Super work Chris - the FoV helps set the scene and processed very nicely.

Thanks Paddy, I'm glad I have this Moravian G4 - not so sure I would buy it (and the filters) again at today's prices though!

You think the cost is bad now, try my position, have a 16803 sitting there with filters and no scope for it.  ANother few months to wait on that.......

Well go on then don't keep us in suspense - what scope did you select to mate with the big sensor? :) At least you already have the camera and filters, just think what the asking prices will be now!

Yes timed it well for purchasing - have a Rifast 400mm F3.8 scope on order due to be set up in Spain with the Gemini focuser rotator

SHould be a treat.....

Sounds good - look forward to seeing some results!  I also have a Gemini, seemed a good idea at the time but I never bothered fitting it due to the 16803 being square, and anyway, I swapped the big camera over to the refractor so didn't need the focussing functionality. May be useful if I swap back to the ODK12 in Spring though.

This a very good bi-colour image Chris - really revealing the tadpoles especially.

I've visited this image a few times thinking about your comment and when viewing at high res I wonder if the stars are a tad too sharp and whether the image as a whole might benefit if they were softened just a small fraction?

Could well be right Barry, I've just started collecting SII data and later (when the Moon has gone) the LRGB, so I will need to re-process anyway. I will watch out for that.

That's coming on lovely Chris. IC410 is one of the few targets that rewards Sii, especially in the tadpoles themselves. If you get a couple of hours to muck about, you might try selectively combining the Sii data with the Red data when you get it.

Cheers

Oooh yes. Tasty!

I envy the NB imagers their tiny stars. This is a lovely target in Ha enhanced natural colour but there is no way known to man (or at least to this one) to keep the star sizes down to anything remotely like this level.
