Walking on the Moon

California Nebula

We've had a couple of clear nights down here in Devon so I've been out with the cameras... this is a 10 sub stack, each of 200 seconds covering NGC1499, the California Nebula.  Captured with a modded Canon 650D through a Borg 55 f/3.6 scope. A nice object to do at this time of year whilst waiting for other stuff to rise :)

Nice capture! I think that the more data you add, the further it goes, and you'll be looking at an all-sky mosaic in no time. The nebula is so bright, that I had no problem picking it up with my unmodded dslr last year, and there seems to be a lot of faint Ha surrounding it.

I think its a matter of where one draws the line with respect to the boundaries of the nebula.  I think that there is faint nebulosity WAY out far from what we consider the main body--on the sides, especially toward the bright star, I think its mostly OIII, but at the ends the Ha extends pretty far.
