Logical next step or foolhardy ??

Recommended Posts

Like many others I started imaging with a HEQ5 and an ED80 and now I understand the basics and everything is working nicely I am thinking about a second scope.

The ED80 is great for wide-field but many of the nebula and galaxies I want to image are just too small with a wide field scope like the ED80.

I am thinking about an Altair Astro 6" Ritchey Chretien with an AP reducer/flattener.

I can re-use my Moonlite focuser and stepper motors etc by buying a different adapter plate

I think my ST80 will still be OK for guiding with its Lodestar mounted on top.??

I would be using my Atik 460 EX and Atik EFW2.

Any comments or pointing out of pitfalls most welcome !!!

PS - Its the 6" steel tube I am tempted by - this one - https://www.altairastro.com/altair-astro-6-f9-ritchey-chretien-astrograph-fully-loaded.html
