Hi, I have not the foggiest about anything telescope or stargazing related, what I have got is the above telescope with an additional Antares right angle something....................well I do not have it, my friend has it, sorry better explanation needed.

My friend Sean Moriarty died 3 weeks ago, after a short hard fight with cancer, he had many hobbies and now it is my friends job to organise things at home and as it approaching christmas and with 4 kids to look after we need to find out it's value and where the best place to sell is, I was hoping somone on here will be able to shed some light on the subject.

I obviously will have to get a code for the Antares bit so we know what it is......

Is there anyone nearby who could perhaps help by testing it as me and Karen have no clue, or perhaps a monthly meeting place I could bring it too, as you can see I am really in the dark......

Can you help ...PLEASE.     Sophie.

Here's what the telescope is, and what it costs new:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Celestron-22096-Computerised-Refractor-Telescope/dp/B0007UQNN6

That should get you started. For your location, I'll let someone else suggest where it could be sold, and what the prices would be for it - used - or, better yet direct you to a used-astronomy equipment website to compare prices other people are selling such for. The same goes for the Antares item. The right-angle description you are talking about sounds like what is called a 'diagonal.' Does the 'Antares' look like the picture below?

Don't be to surprised if a moderator moves this thread to another forum. But Greetings and welcome to SGL!

Dave

Sorry to hear about the death of your friend. Here are some local astronomy societies - their members may be able to help you, or even might be interested in buying the telescope:

Coventry and Warwickshire Astronomical Society http://www.covastro.org.uk/

Warwick University students astronomical society https://www.warwicksu.com/societies/astronomy/

and a few others in the region: http://www.astronomyclubs.co.uk/Clubs/Default.aspx?CountyId=71

Hi ...   Sorry to hear that your reason for seeking out the group is not the happiest.   I believe that the "Antares right angle something" may well be an Antares Right Angle Finderscope ... there are several different models and this link may help to identify which one you have (checkout the alternatives at the bottom of the page)  http://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/antares-8-x-50-right-angled-erect-image-finderscope.html

The UK Astro Buy Sell website (Google it) is a good place to sell once you know what it is you're selling and you can look at old ads and see what sort of price they have sold for in the past.

Hope this helps a little - also try seeking out a local astro group or society.   If all else fails, you might like to take up the hobby ... ?
