how to remove all traces of sillocone from secondary mirror

hi everyone, i need some help, i need to remove all traces of silicone from the outer edge of my secondary. the reason, i bought one of the astro systems secondary holders that wrap around the mirror, but it was slightly to big, so emailed astrosystems and he said they use a double sided tape and one side is ptfe, so now i need to wrap this around my mirror but need to remove all traces of silicone, i have heard acetone works any other ideas. thanks guys/gals

You can by Silicone Eaters, but I read this somewhere, It seems to be effective, but you need to establish how
safe it would be regarding contaminating the aluminium coating on the mirror.
Same applies to White Spirit, that too will remove silicone adhesive, but care is needed.
You could shave off the stuff with a sharp modelling Knife, fine if the silicone is just attached to the edge, but perhaps it is on the rear, where it was originally
attached to the spider. 
Difficult task, but it can be achieved with care. Optical Tissue can protect the surface during any operation, but if it has to lay face down, then
lateral movement of the mirror will need to be zero.

hi barkis, i have removed all traces of silicone but i know if i try to stick something to it there will be some residue , so i should only need to wipe it with something, so white spirit will work then. never knew that. thank you
