Stub Mandrel
I was a bit disappointed by this one, I thought it was a bit short of stars until I compared it to stellarium - there are stars down to mag 17.95 just visible. M74 must be very faint! ... googles ... " This galaxy has the second lowest surface brightness of all the Messier objects. " No wonder it's a bit noisy. Jannis
Not bad for such a faint and small target.
Davey-T
Nice try, you need a long focal length and a CCD to capture that little devil. Dave

Maximidius
Well done on a difficult target, what equipment did you use and how to you acquire the data ?
Stub Mandrel
130P-DS on an EQ3 with an astro-modded Canon 450D. 60-second subs at 800ISO. It does need more data, and now I've discovered I can get 120 seconds subs without trailing, I will have another go at it once it's a bit higher out of the LP.
