Bahtinov grabber - where's the website?

Recommended Posts

I used Bahtinov grabber software years ago, and it was excellent. I'm setting up a new laptop at the moment for my observatory and want to reload this, but the original website for Bahtinov grabber seems to be dead now. This is the link to the site I used before: http://www.njnoordhoek.com/?p=325

If anybody knows of a new/functional link for this software, please let me know.

Thanks, Martin

If memory serves, the author of the Grabber died and the site died shortly after. ( Sorry if he/she isn't !! )

If you need the stand alone Grabber and nothing else will do, I think you'll have to find someone with it on their hard drive and PM them.

Dave.

Unfortunately, you are right.  The last message on his site, giving that sad information, can be still be found in the Internet archives:

And the download link for 'bahtinov grabber without autofocus' still works - it will download a zip file with both 32 and 64 bit versions

You're right!  The link still works ( http://www.njnoordhoek.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2012/09/Bahtinov-grabber-no-autofocus.zip ) - how extraordinary!  Bahtinov Grabber is a brilliant piece of software which I still use every single imaging session.

Enjoy,

Interesting Dave!

I downloaded it for a try-out.

I have two Bahtinov masks I use on occasions. I've always had to span between my mount and the table where the laptop sets.

I hope your guide can help my hit-and-miss,miss, miss, dangit, miss... focusing.

I got a metal mask last go-round. But don't like it's pattern, it throws a 4 point image and is very hard to see. So I repaired my plastic 3 point mask and went back to using it. I love the idea of a metal mask, but hate the pattern it has.

Hi guys, I've fixed Niels' old website http://www.njnoordhoek.com and intend to maintain it until I keel over myself.  There are too many cool things on it.  Poke me if anything isn't where you think it should be or you have any questions.

Cool!  Thanks so much for this!

I also notice the fantastic maskulator is available again:  http://www.njnoordhoek.com/?p=376

You're doing a great service for the astro-community.

Are you the Dave in the link?

I use Grabber to focus a DSLR in LiveView mode, which gives a continuous output as focus is adjusted.

However with a CCD, which takes a couple of secs to download even a short exposure, Grabber doesn't work too well.

This mask-guide looks the business for measuring  individual ccd frames.

That is such really good news, it was so illuminating back then to read his blog, so sad when he departed.

Well done, thank you.

This is brilliant news - Many thanks for taking this on.... You have made many peoples lives much easier in their astro imaging world and they probably don't even know it yet!! :D

Excuse the intrusion on an old thread and I am not trying to argue, but trying to get a solution for 'everybody'.

I saw many threads about Maskulator and a load of repeated links that do not exist any more.

Why is it any one that has a copy of Maskulator software is not publishing it on Google Drive or similar?

I cannot find it yet ... and I do not understand the secrecy, if there is any.
I thought it was supposed to be a People's thing - you know sharing?

😇

Thanks

PS keeping publishing dead links does not help anybody.

Correction!

The link from web archive advertise everywhere, initially shows a Server Error.

Then I thought lets wait a few seconds more and I was right.

Download link comes out fine!

https://web.archive.org/web/20160312134842/http://www.njnoordhoek.com/?p=376

Then click on Maskulator and 'wait' after you get (well I did!) a server error.

:D
