Charles messier

Being  new to this amazing world in the sky Charles messier in the 17 th century found 110 deep sky object with a telescope that I carnt imagine what it was like  with what on the markers now days I got a computar on mine and I've only seen  m57  m13  m 92 I carnt get my head round I he saw them with a scope that must of been  rubbish to what you can buy now. Amazing astromere

Don't think his scope was that rubbish and he probably didn't have as much light pollution.

there was no light polution in the 17th century which would have meant a small scope would have been adequate.

Certainly not anywhere as much but there would still be lots of lamps and candles about made using whale oil which would have given if allot of dark smoke which would have a interesting effect on the seeing.

In the original catalogue there were only 103 objects, others being added later. Messier used a 4" refractor to compile the list of dso objects.
