NGC7331 - The Deer Lick Group

Recommended Posts

Here is a galaxy effort using a 10" Skyliner. Atik 414ex on an AzEQ6. Bit of a beast, but can work when things click perfectly, which is not often.

This is 60 x 5 mins Lum, and 30 x 2 mins for each RGB, using ZWO filters, processed in PixInsight.

Feedback welcome.

Brilliant shot. How many of the small surrounding galaxies are 7331 satellites?

Great close-up image!

rl: On the question of satellites, the data I've seen suggests NGC 7331 itself is much close (49 million LYs) than the companions (3 of them around 320 MLY and the top-most one in this image at ~430). If so, it is a fortunate chance alignment.

Thanks all. I think that most of the galaxies in this are visual line only.

I struggled a bit with the processing of this, will give it another go, and Paddy, I think you are right on both your observations, will concentrate on the data and trim off the RGB misalignment :)
