Can anyone explain what I saw?

Hi. Im a bit confused about what I saw tonight so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone can help...

I was walking home at about 12:20am when I looked up to the sky and saw a small orange light, a bit bigger than a star. It was just a single orange ball and it looked like it was burning gently like a flame. It was completely silent and moved quite smoothly and steadily across the sky. It gradually got darker, faded away and dissappeared - like it burnt out.

Id really appriciate it if someone could take a guess at what I might have seen? Something to do with a meteor maybe?

I'm guessing you saw a Sky Lantern... they seem to be getting popular lately.

haha yes i just youtubed sky lanterns and I think thats what I saw. Thought it may have been something more to do with space, oops. Thanks for all your replies.
