Hello everyone just back from a great new event ,David and Martyn have made a positive impression with their Abernethy Star Camp, it bodes well for a repeat performance next year, the event has been a great sucess with all the effort made in it`s creation, and we got to see stars in a brilliant black sky for the entire event, i have got to mention that i am envious of the location.

Everyone i`m sure will join me in saying well done, for your first event.

All the folk i talked to were impressed with the time taken to explain the sky and the telescopes on display as this was very much an inclusive event for novices, the local population and those that had traveled a distance, including a very enterprising 70yr old who traveled on the bus with all his equipment and who asked when the next event is to be staged he had enjoyed himself so much. Steve and James were on hand with their Cosmos Planetarium and put on 3 shows, answering a variety of questions from a very enthusiastic audience

The event had the backing of  a varied cross section of the villagers who took a great interest in all the goings on, all in all a very friendly reception awaits anyone travelling to that part of Scotland.

Roll on next year,

Mike

Thanks for the kind words Mike.  It was a well worth while task to help host the event. Thanks to call that came and hopefully we can host again.

I knocked this together when I was bored lol

ABERNETHY STAR CAMP 2017 ????

Abernethy Star Camp, the place where you must go,

To see the very best views, of nature’s night-time show,

The campers set up early, the dew they do despise,

It spoils the views, and is bad news, for nature’s nigh-time skies.

Last year we were so lucky, folks came from near and far,

Some by bus and some on foot, but most they came by car,

The views we had – amazing, the stars lit up the sky,

The Milky Way - astonishing, Orion’s Belt nearby.

We hope to have another, where astro chums can meet,

They’ll tell you news of their best views, of scopes on steady feet.

New Year is now upon us, and until you all arrive,

At Abernethy Star Camp, we’ll watch Stargazing Live.

And this is an older one I did a few years back !!!!

Dark Skies

Jupiter's shining in the late summer sky,
An almost full Moon, emerges close by,
Vega glows blue in the darkness above,
The great Double Cluster is one we all love.

Andromeda's mistiness teases the eye,
A meteor darts across darkening skies,
The clouds fade away giving me hope,
It looks like it's time to set up the scope.

Warm jacket and boots, red torch at the ready,
Check your kit's cold, and tripod is steady,
With batteries charged, eyepieces looked out,
"Turn the damn lights off"  I hear someone shout.

With these little thoughts, your hobby will grow,
And empty your pockets of any spare dough,
Endless late nights, and stinging red eyes,
Stargazers never tire of watching Dark Skies.

.
