Mars+Saturn dark spot - 2/3rd July 2016

Recommended Posts

SPX350, PGRFlea3, Baader RGB filters.  Mars F41.3 Saturn F34.5.

Seeing was predicted to be good but I found it variable and on 3rd waves of terrible seeing took over bending Saturn and making it all but disappear through turbulent defocusing.  Seeing managed to settle to near good for half an hour for Saturn where a dark spot was seen near the North pole shown in the GIF.

Mars phase is increasing and albedo is not as contrasty, I have had a good trawl this season so I should be able to make a projection of the whole of Mars now.

Regards, John.

Hello everyone ,apparently this Saturn dark spot has been around since 2014 (N63.6 latitude) - I have not been paying much attention to Saturn for few years.

My Mars projection looks way better than 2014 effort with plenty more detail so 2018 will be great for Southern observers.

John.
